Tool interchangeability of two new, affordable wrist lanyards offer maximum worksite safety, increased productivity and ease of use.

Each of the new Gear Keeper® Deluxe Wrist Lanyard Systems can be used with many tools.

A dropped torque wrench from a tower becomes a weapon that can cause injury, damage and lost work time.

A construction worker at heights, using a variety of hand tools drops a tool… and everyone below is in danger. A tool is inadvertently left behind during a maintenance or repair service on an aircraft engine has the potential to bring down a plane. These are typical accident scenes that don’t need to happen. Two new Gear Keeper deluxe wrist lanyard systems offer fast and safe tool interchangeability and short-drop safety.

Gear Keeper’s two new wrist lanyard systems can safely handle tools up to 5 lbs. Productivity is significantly increased by the company’s patented Quick Connect tool attachment connecting devices that permit secure, fast and easy connection / disconnection of tools. Users can easily change out and use many tools with just one lanyard by fitting additional male connectors to all tools being used and merely unclick one tool and attach another.

The new wrist lanyards are particularly valuable when the task involves climbing or working at heights or when a short drop distance is required. Unlike “off-the-shelf” standard wrist lanyards, which can actually create productivity-limiting hazards, the Gear Keeper tethering systems insures dependable at-heights safety.

The two Gear Keeper wrist lanyard systems, popular choices of safety engineers, are the models TL1-2007 and TL1-2008 Retractable Wrist Lanyards. Both models offer comfortable nylon webbing Velcro wrist attachment straps. They are available in high visibility safety orange with serial numbers to satisfy traceability standards. Both models also offer inexpensive additional lanyard attachments for multiple tool use.

The TL1-2007 Deluxe Wrist Lanyard has a side release disconnect barrel lock offering an ample user- comfortable, 10” extended length. The wrist lanyard comes complete with the model #ACO-0206, Barrel Lock Nylon lanyard connector. Working at ground level, your hard hat protects you from an object falling from above. But when someone is working aloft, a falling hard hat becomes a one-pound unguided missile that endangers the entire worksite.

Avoid dropped tools…How to attach lanyards to tools without attachment points.

New Gear Keeper® guide includes fully illustrated, 6-page section on how to tether seemingly un-tetherable tools.

Even small tools that are dropped from above are serious safety hazards. When working at heights, some of the most commonly used tools, that don’t have attachment points, are often improperly secured and need to be tethered. The new literature from Gear Keeper offers simple and convenient tethering solutions that will safely secure a tool while still retaining the benefit of extending and retracting the tool as needed.

UntetherablesIt is not unusual to find a tool that does not have an attachment point. Many commonly used tools often have to be modified in order to secure them and prevent “dropped tool” accidents. In order to safely tether these tools you need to create a secure attachment point for connection to your tether or lanyard. The most practical method is to attach a “load ring” for easy connection and disconnection to a lanyard. This can be done in a number of ways based on the tool, the application and the user.

The illustrated “how to” reference is included in the company’s free new 16-page “Safety Engineer’s Guide to Tool Tethering.” The multi-page section titled “How to attach lanyards to tools that don’t have attachment points,” contains over 50 demonstration photos. They illustrate the guide’s tool attachment “how-to” theories such as Swivel Connection Tools, Slip vs. Non-Slip Connections and Attaching Tools With Minimal Geometry” in a step-by-step presentation. There is also a section covering non-slip, swivel connections for small hand tools that solves the problem of tethering commonly used tools such as screw drivers, pliers, hammers and others that lack the necessary geometry or don’t have built-in attachment points required for tethering.

Covered in the guide are workplace considerations such as; tethers for working in confined quarters or climbing; tethers that allow for quick interchangeability of tools and tethers designed to anchor a heavy tool to a structure instead of a person. Even tethers for other common workplace objects such as hard hats, security cards, cell phones and more are covered in the guide.

According to John Salentine, VP of Hammerhead Industries, “the new Safety Engineer’s Guide to Tool Tethering is the first document of its kind. It is a major step forward in helping safety engineers properly tether tools.” Salentine added, “This information will make every employee and their work site safer and more efficient.”
